The Wine

The stately chateau of Cos d'Estournel is a landmark in the Medoc. It is one of the great Second Growths of the 1855 classification, consistently prized by collectors worldwide. Located in Saint Estèphe, just a few minute’s drive from Lafite in Pauillac, Cos is Cabernet Sauvignon forward, delivering powerful structure, dense black fruit concentration and a signature exotic spice and incense character. Merlot adds red fruit brightness, while a touch of Cabernet Franc contributes additional layers and complexity. The wines are crafted in a beautiful modern cellar with meticulous winemaking.   For me, Cos is always one of the great labels of Bordeaux. Along with Montrose it is the super-star of St Estèphe, and the wines are built to age 20+ years. I adore this wine for its combination of power, texture and exotic perfume—a true expression of Médoc grandeur. The 2025 was rated 98-99 points by Suckling.
