The Wine

Pingus is a cult wine, an enigma, a wine representing defiance, revolution and bold statement. Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck founded Dominio de Pingus in 1995 and crafts a very small volume of one of Spain's truly great wines in a small, humble cellar. Production is tiny, typically only a few hundred cases a year, which makes Pingus one of the rarest wines in Spain. The 2021 has received 100 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and 100 points from James Suckling, and Sisseck himself considers it the finest wine he has made at Pingus. It is made from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) from very old, low-yielding vines in La Horra, in the heart of Ribera del Duero, some dating back to 1929, farmed organically and biodynamically. James Suckling finds violets, flint, graphite, dark chocolate, black truffles, tar and black tea, with very linear, polished tannins and a fine silky texture. Try after 2032. The wine is packed in cases of 3 bottles and the minimum order is 3 bottles. It is stored in-bond in England at London City Bond and can be re-sold for you by Fine Vintage or shipped to you worldwide by a specialist wine transporter at your cost.
