Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2023

Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2023

Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC, Tuscany

This Wine of the Week offer has now closed.

The Wine

Sassicaia is considered the most famous wine in Italy and the benchmark Super Tuscan, made from a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon with a smaller part of Cabernet Franc. Bolgheri Sassicaia is the only Italian Denomination of Origin reserved for a single wine, produced by a single estate within a strictly defined vineyard area. The name translates "to a place of many stones", inspired by a terroir of rugged, gravelly and pebble-rich soils. Set along the Tuscan coast, Tenuta San Guido began as a private experiment of the Incisa della Rocchetta family in the 1940s; with its first commercial vintage released in 1968 it challenged traditional ideas about Tuscan wine and helped establish Bolgheri as a world class wine region. Traditionally matured in small French oak barriques, with a small part in American oak, for a period between 20 and 25 months, the 2023 has only recently been released. It is very cool and complex, with pretty aromas of black currants, fresh herbs such as sage and rosemary, and lavender and violet undertones — a clear and distinctive Sassicaia with true character of the estate. James Suckling awards 99 points and The Wine Advocate 100 points. Originally reserved for family and friends until 1967, Sassicaia is a dream for collectors and carries potential investment upside. The current Liv-ex market value sits above the price we are able to offer here.
